A street-art twist on one of contemporary art’s most recognisable ideas.

Duct Tape Banana sees Morf Brooks take the now-iconic banana-and-tape concept and rebuild it in his own distinctive stencil language.

Created using a hand-cut stencil and spray paint, the familiar banana is broken into bold horizontal lines, giving the image a distorted, almost glitch-like quality. The sharp black detailing and flashes of yellow against the clean white canvas make this a deceptively simple piece that immediately catches the eye.

There’s humour in it, but also a clever nod to the sometimes ridiculous world of contemporary art. Very much in keeping with Morf’s playful approach to street and stencil work.

This is number 1 of just 20 original stencil works, individually created using the hand-cut stencil rather than a reproduction print.

About Morf Brooks

Born in 1975, Morf Brooks originally studied graphic design before moving to Amsterdam, where he gained a Master’s degree in furniture making and design.

As an artist, Morf is largely self-taught. Through experimentation he has developed an incredibly varied body of work, ranging from cold-cast bronze figurines sold to collectors around the world to his distinctive Foam Monkey masks, original artworks and hand-cut stencil pieces.

His creativity doesn't stay confined to the studio either. Morf also takes his stencil work onto the streets, bringing his characters, humour and ideas into the urban environment.

Despite his work reaching collectors around the globe, the person behind Morf Brooks remains deliberately anonymous.

So anonymous, in fact, that not even his wife knows he's Morf Brooks.

And occasionally, he forgets himself.
