A genuine piece of urban infrastructure transformed into a huge one-off graffiti original.

Bristol artist Werm takes a large reclaimed street sign and turns it into a bold piece of contemporary graffiti art, allowing the original industrial surface, fixings and signs of use to remain visible beneath the artwork.

At the centre is Werm's unmistakable graffiti lettering, built from layers of deep blue, black, green and red, set against the incredibly strong yellow background of the original sign. Hand-painted outlines, dimensional details and bright white highlights give the lettering depth and movement, particularly when viewed in person.

Rather than painting on a conventional canvas, Werm uses the street itself as his starting point. The holes, fixings, scratches and previous life of the sign become part of the finished artwork, meaning no two pieces like this could ever be identical.

At approximately 90 × 80 cm, this is a seriously substantial piece. Large enough to command a wall on its own, it would work brilliantly in a contemporary home, office, studio, bar or dedicated street-art collection.
