Provocative, confrontational and unmistakably political, The List by Dirty Rats (Sinking Ship) turns one of the most controversial stories in contemporary American politics into a stark piece of visual satire.

The work depicts Donald Trump standing over a burning pile of documents, with imagery alluding to the Jeffrey Epstein files. Rather than making a literal claim about events, Dirty Rats uses the scene as a deliberately provocative visual metaphor for secrecy, suppressed information, political power and public distrust.

Rendered predominantly in black and grey, the figure is interrupted by two deliberately charged flashes of colour: the red cap and the orange flames consuming the papers below. Against the otherwise sparse background, the fire immediately becomes the focal point, transforming the destruction of documents into a symbol of uncomfortable truths disappearing from view.

The composition draws heavily on the direct language of street art and political stencil work. There is little distraction and no subtle decorative backdrop. Instead, the viewer is confronted with a single uncomfortable question: when information threatens those with power, who controls what survives?

The Printer’s Proof (PP) designation makes this particular example especially interesting. Printer’s proofs sit outside the standard numbered edition and are typically retained in very small quantities as part of the printmaking process, giving them additional appeal to collectors.
