The Brogue Artist – Duran Duran Rio 1982 - Cassette Tape Original
The Brogue Artist – Duran Duran Rio 1982
Original Spray Paint on Handmade Paper | Framed | 49 × 49cm
Bold, vibrant and filled with musical nostalgia, Duran Duran Rio 1982 by The Brogue Artist celebrates one of the defining albums of the 1980s through a striking piece of contemporary urban art.
The artwork features a classic cassette tape rendered in deep black spray paint against an intensely vibrant fluorescent orange background. The minimalist composition allows the familiar cassette to take centre stage, while its distressed detailing and loose ribbon of magnetic tape bring character and movement to the piece.
Look closely and the cassette reveals a wonderful handwritten detail. Across the label are the words "Duran Duran Rio 1982", referencing the iconic 1982 album by British new wave band Duran Duran.
Released in 1982, Rio helped establish Duran Duran as one of the most recognisable bands of the decade, featuring unforgettable tracks including Rio, Hungry Like the Wolf and Save a Prayer. The album became synonymous with the glamour, fashion and musical experimentation of the New Romantic movement.
The handwritten cassette label recalls an era when favourite albums were recorded, shared and treasured on tape. It transforms a simple everyday object into a nostalgic reminder of 1980s music culture, personal mixtapes and the excitement of discovering new music.
Created using original spray paint on handmade paper, the artwork combines the raw visual language of street art with the tactile character of traditional materials. The naturally torn edges provide an organic contrast to the bold graphic imagery, while the fluorescent orange background gives the piece a distinctive contemporary presence.
Presented float-mounted within a contemporary black box frame, the artwork showcases the handmade paper and its beautiful deckled edges.
A distinctive original bringing together Duran Duran, New Romantic culture, 1980s nostalgia and contemporary street art.

About the Artist | The Brogue Artist
The Brogue Artist is a British contemporary street artist whose work draws inspiration from urban culture, graffiti, nostalgia and the visual world around him.
Growing up surrounded by creativity and a love of visual culture, he studied Art & Design at SCAT in the late 1980s, before completing a BA in Product and Graphic Design at Bristol University.
Following a career spanning more than 30 years in the commercial world, his creative passion was reignited during the lockdown of 2020, marking the beginning of a renewed commitment to producing original artwork.
Today, working as The Brogue Artist, he creates contemporary street-inspired pieces combining bold graphic imagery, expressive textures and cultural references. His background in design brings a strong sense of composition and visual storytelling to his work, while his interest in graffiti and urban environments gives each piece a distinctive street-art character.
His work bridges the gap between graphic design, contemporary art and authentic urban culture, often exploring themes of identity, nostalgia and social observation through layered, visually engaging compositions.
