The inspiration comes from Mr Kuu’s own story. Having travelled from Finland to Montreal, he met his future partner, who had made her own journey from Brazil. Their connection began over games of cards, turning the imagery within You’re Ace into something far more personal than a simple romantic scene.

The playing cards become a metaphor for the chances we take in life. Moving country, meeting someone new and falling in love all involve an element of uncertainty. Sometimes, however, taking that chance results in being dealt the perfect hand.

Mr Kuu is known for creating imaginative scenes using miniature figures and everyday objects, transforming familiar items into clever visual narratives. His work combines photography, humour and storytelling, often revealing an entirely different world when ordinary objects are viewed from a new perspective.
