A familiar face, stripped back and given Morf Brooks’ distinctive stencil treatment.

Monkey Mask takes one of Morf Brooks’ recurring influences and reduces it to a brilliantly simple, graphic image. The monkey’s oversized white eyes, warm natural tones and strong black linework give the piece an almost hypnotic quality, while the diagonal stencil detailing rewards a closer look.

Created using spray paint and stencil on box canvas, the deliberately minimal composition gives the character plenty of space to command attention.

This is number 1 of an edition of just 20 original stencil works, individually created rather than mechanically reproduced as a print.

At 50 × 50cm, it’s an easy size to live with while still having plenty of wall presence. The box canvas is ready to hang, so no additional framing is required.

About Morf Brooks

Born in 1975, Morf Brooks originally studied graphic design before moving to Amsterdam, where he gained a Master’s degree in furniture making and design.

As an artist, Morf is largely self-taught. Through experimentation he has developed an incredibly varied body of work, ranging from cold-cast bronze figurines sold to collectors around the world to his distinctive Foam Monkey masks, original artworks and stencil work.

His creativity doesn’t stay confined to the studio either. Morf also takes his stencil work onto the streets, bringing his characters, humour and ideas into the urban environment.

Despite his work reaching collectors around the globe, the person behind Morf Brooks remains deliberately anonymous.

So anonymous, in fact, that not even his wife knows he’s Morf Brooks.

And occasionally, he forgets himself.
