Marc Craig – "Bat in Kinky Boots" Original
Marc Craig – Bat in Kinky Boots
Unique Original Mixed Media Artwork on Map | 1/1 | Framed | 77 × 58cm
A wonderfully eccentric and expressive original artwork by London-based artist Marc Craig, Bat in Kinky Boots combines Neo-Expressionism, dark humour and graffiti-inspired imagery in a bold, character-filled composition.
Created directly onto a geographical map, the artwork transforms a traditional document into a striking piece of contemporary art, bringing together historical cartography and spontaneous artistic expression.
At the centre stands a bizarre bat-like creature with piercing red eyes, exaggerated jagged teeth and a skeletal body. Its oversized head and energetic black outlines create an immediate visual impact, while its bright red boots introduce an unexpected touch of humour.
The restrained palette of black, white and vivid red contrasts beautifully with the intricate map details visible beneath the artwork, creating depth and an intriguing connection between past and present.
Influenced by A.R. Penck, Neo-Expressionism and the CoBrA movement, Marc's distinctive characters explore identity, imagination and the freedom of self-expression.
A unique, one-off original artwork, Bat in Kinky Boots is a fantastic example of Marc Craig's ability to transform everyday materials into expressive contemporary art.
Presented in a contemporary white frame with a white mount, measuring 77 × 58cm, this is a striking statement piece for collectors of original urban and contemporary art.

About the Artist | Marc Craig
Marc Craig is a London-based multidisciplinary artist working across murals, painting, sculpture and collaborative projects.
Originally from Winchester, with strong Cornish roots, Marc trained in textiles, ceramics and contemporary visual arts. His distinctive style combines bold imagery, intricate doodles, expressive characters and spontaneous mark-making.
His experiences at London's famous Leake Street helped shape his passion for collaboration and creative experimentation.
One of his most personal projects, MIND THE MAP, brought together 55 artists to create 110 artworks using maps from his late father's collection, exploring memory, connection and shared creativity.
Alongside this project, Marc has developed his own collection of original map paintings, describing them as raw expressions of taking the inside outside. These works have become a deeply therapeutic process, exploring identity, emotion and self-discovery.
Influenced by A.R. Penck and the CoBrA movement, Marc embraces the freedom of Neo-Expressionism, creating unconventional characters and compositions that encourage individual interpretation.
His map paintings feature in the online exhibition EYES WIDE OPEN, opening on 1 November, with other works exhibited at ANTIKULT GALLERY in Hamburg.
Across his practice, Marc's work celebrates curiosity, individuality and the power of art to start conversations.
