Provocative, uncomfortable and deliberately confrontational, Gaza The Resort by Dirty Rats (Sinking Ship) uses the visual language of vintage advertising to deliver a piece of contemporary political satire.

Designed to resemble an ageing mid-century travel poster, the work initially presents an idyllic tropical resort: a palm tree, calm water and a solitary golfer. But the illusion quickly collapses. The fictional destination is “Gaza The Resort”, promoted as “The New Billionaires Playground”, turning the language of luxury tourism into a critique of power, wealth and displacement.

The work references Donald Trump’s 2025 comments describing Gaza in real-estate terms and uses that language as the starting point for a much darker imagined advertisement. Phrases including “Displace and Replace” and the fictional sponsorship line sharpen the satire, confronting the viewer with the human implications behind treating a conflict zone as a development opportunity.

Dirty Rats deliberately employs distressed surfaces, bold stencil-like imagery and propaganda-inspired typography. The contrast between the apparently nostalgic design and its contemporary subject matter gives the piece much of its impact.

Printed on substantial 310gsm textured German Etching paper, this signed and numbered edition is limited to 100 examples.

The presentation takes the work further. It has been professionally framed in a dramatic hand-painted Italian gold frame with black splatter detailing, paired with Artglass 70. The ornate gold and chaotic paintwork echo the collision of wealth, destruction and street culture within the artwork itself.
